Her initiative combines environmental awareness, responsible recycling and scientific exploration to create meaningful solutions for schools and communities.

As part of Project Minchu, Dhithi conducts e-waste awareness programmes in schools, encouraging students to understand the environmental consequences of improper electronic waste disposal. She also organises collection drives to ensure that discarded electronic items are directed towards responsible recycling instead of ending up in landfills.

Beyond promoting sustainable waste management, the initiative has also contributed to community welfare. A portion of the proceeds generated through the e-waste drives has been used to install water filtration systems in schools, connecting environmental responsibility with access to clean drinking water.

“I wanted e-waste awareness to go beyond simply telling people to throw their electronics responsibly. I wanted the waste we collect to create something positive for the same communities we work with,” Dhithi said.

Project Minchu has also become a platform for scientific experimentation. Using components and materials sourced from discarded electronics, Dhithi developed a portable incubator designed to help check bacterial growth. The project explores how materials from electronic waste can potentially be repurposed for practical scientific applications.

Her work reflects a growing interest in integrating environmental sustainability with science, technology and engineering. By viewing discarded electronics as a potential resource rather than merely a waste-disposal challenge, Dhithi is encouraging students to explore innovative approaches to environmental problems.

Through continued awareness programmes and e-waste collection drives, she hopes to make responsible electronic waste management an integral part of school culture. Her initiative also highlights the role students can play in addressing environmental concerns through practical action and community participation.

“E-waste is not just something we need to get rid of. It is also an opportunity to educate, innovate and create impact. When students understand the value of responsible disposal, they can become part of the solution,” she said.

As Bengaluru continues to face challenges associated with the growing volume of electronic waste, initiatives such as Project Minchu underline the importance of educating younger generations about sustainable practices and responsible consumption.

Dhithi’s efforts demonstrate how a student-led initiative can bring together environmental awareness, scientific curiosity and community service. By linking e-waste collection and recycling with school infrastructure improvements and scientific experimentation, she is showcasing how young innovators can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Her message is clear: what is considered waste today could become a solution for tomorrow.

National Public School student combines e-waste awareness, responsible recycling and scientific innovation to create a positive community impact through Project Minchu.
